FAQ

WHAT IS MICROBLADING, COMBINATIONS BROWS, POWDER EFFECT SHADING?

Microblading , also known as Eyebrow Embroidery is a procedure categorised under permanent makeup, but unlike traditional cosmetic tattooing, it is less invasive and is considered semi-permanent.  Microblading typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type and skincare routine.  The procedure is done by using a hand tool with ultra-fine needles and each 'hair' is gently etched into the skin, giving an incredibly natural and realistic look.  Microblading can dramatically correct or fully reconstruct lost eyebrow and is excellent for those wanting to enhance their brows or who have little to no eyebrows, thinning brows from age or over-tweezed brows.  Pigments used are chosen to match the natural or desired brow colour and skin tone will also be taken into consideration.

If a client want their brows more defined but still natural, Combination Brow Tattoo are the best option, where I will add shading using the machine to fulfil pigment between Microblading strokes, therefore giving the client's brows a fuller and more defined look.

Ombre Powder Brow or Powder Fill Brow Tattoo is for someone who want their brows to have the makeup look and do not want to pencil in their eyebrows.

HOW LONG IS THE APPOINTMENT?

Two and a half hours needs to be allowed for the initial appointment.  Much of the time is spent measuring and drawing on a symmetrical set of brows and agreeing on your perfect shape and colour.
The follow-up visit will take approximately one and half hours.  This session takes place 4-6 weeks after the initial session.  This has allowed the brows to heal perfectly and we can address any minor touch ups to ensure they are perfect.

DOES IT HURT?

I apply a topical anesthetic to the area to minimise discomfort, and also reapply during the procedure.  Some clients feel a slight discomfort, bit it is relatively pain free for most.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL?

The eyebrow area will be slightly red after the procedure and the colour will appear very dark.  This is normal for the procedure and part of the healing process.  The colour will fade by up to 40% as it heals.  In the following days your eyebrows will continue to get darker and you will notice slight scabbing begin.  DO NOT pick at the scabs as this may damage the skin and the outcome of the microbladed area. It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over and about 1 month for the colour to fully set in.  You will notice the colour is very light right after the two weeks of healing.  The skin will have an opaque milky looking quality to it.  This is know as the milk skin and is common in tattooing.  This is due to the tissue still healing from the inside out even though the surface of the skin is healed.  The true colour will reveal itself once it is completely healed.

IS THE TOUCH-UP APPOINTMENT NECESSARY?

Definitely yes!  A touch-up appointment after 4-6 weeks is necessary as everyone heals differently and the their outcome will vary.  Certain areas may not pick up during the first appointment and will need to be refilled.  Pigment colour may need to be adjusted, brow thickness and more strokes can be added.  Individuals with oily skin often require a deeper shade during the touch-up appointment as the oils tend to lighten the pigment.  Most importantly, your touch-up appointment is to refine your brows to ensure they are perfect!

CAN I GET MY TOUCH UP APPOINTMENT SOONER THAN 4 WEEKS?

Touch up appointments should not be done earlier than 4 weeks after the initial Microblading session as pigment colour has not fully settled into the skin.  Also this is to prevent scar damage as the tissue requires time to completely heal.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Since Microblading pigments are not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoos, the area will naturally fade over time.  Microblading typically last 1-3 years, depending on skin type (normal, oil, dry), age (youthful/mature). Skincare routines will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment.  Clients who tan, use products with AHA or Glycolic Acid will fade faster as your skin will resurface faster.  Each individuals colour retention will vary.  To maintain the brows looking fresh, a touch-up is recommended every 12-18 months.  Clients can let the microbladed area fade over time, but please note a slight shadow may remain.

WHO IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THE PROCEDURE?

Pregnant or breastfeeding ladies

Anyone using Accutane

Anyone who has a heart condition or uses heart medications

Anyone who has had Botox in the last 2 weeks

Anyone who has gone a deep tan or chemical peel in the last 2 weeks

Anyone with diabetes (a doctors note required)

Anyone allergic to lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine or epinephrine

RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS?

I take all proper precautions for a safe session by using disposable/sterilized equipment, new needles and in a sanitized environment.  From experience if clients follow the pre and post care instructions thoroughly there are minimal risks or complications.  Although allergic reactions to the pigments are rare, it could be possible for certain individuals.

WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE IT?

As with all cosmetic procedures, clients should not make their choices lightly.  I recommend doing your research and understanding the procedure and what is involved thoroughly before committing to an appointment.  Microbladed brows will eventually fade away if no additional touch ups are done.
